Although
British spiders are not normally considered a pest they can
sometimes invade houses to the extent that their numbers are
unacceptable, especially to people who are phobic to a greater or
lesser degree.
Whilst it
is never possible to remove every spider from a house or garden we can
usually improve matters.
There are
a very smalll number of U.K. spiders known to have a painful bite but
they are very rare and it is unlikely that you will encounter one.
Arachnophobia Arachnophobia
is a specific phobia,
an abnormal fear of spiders or anything reminiscent of spiders, such as
webs or spider-like shapes. It is one of the most common specific
phobias, and some statistics show that 50 percent of women and 10
percent of men show symptoms.
It may be
an exaggerated form of an instinctive response that helped early humans
to survive,[96] or perhaps a cultural phenomenon that is most common in
predominantly European societies.
